Getting to know Marie a lot better was one of the many ways God blessed me during RecWeek. If you knew our friendship before RecWeek, all it really consisted of was us telling each other how much the other sucked at life. Quite the friendship.
But going into RecWeek I really needed to find out what it meant to have joy through the gospel. God gave me so much joy the past semester in sharing the gospel with friends who have never heard it before as well as in talking about it with my close community.
Towards the end of the semester and especially during RecWeek, God showed me what it meant to have joy through others. To find joy by witnessing the gospel working in other peoples’ lives and not just my own. There were a lot of awesome stories of God’s faithfulness to so many people in AACM who have been convicted to take risks and take the gospel back to our campus (let’s keep praying this happens!). Marie’s story during sharing time just happened to be the one that hit me the most.
Marie talked a lot about the conviction to share the gospel with the girls in her teaching cohort. The girls she literally lives almost every second with, takes every class with, and spends all her time with. Marie felt the push back in her own heart and own unwillingness to do it, something I’m sure we can all relate to. But ultimately God called her to care for her friends and by the end of her sharing, all I could think in my head was ”man, that was awesome, I’m going to go say something to her, I just don’t know what.”
So I walked up to Marie and before I could even say anything, I just hugged her (and it was definitely awkward, thank you very much Becca and Rae Anne). And if you know me, I’m not big on hugs, not to mention there are very few girls I would even consider hugging at all. Marie was super-weirded out by it. And thankfully, Michael was gracious enough of a boyfriend not to beat me down instantly.
We sat down, exchanged stories, and talked about this gospel conviction Marie was feeling. In the end, I was feeling so much joy. So much joy through the gospel. So much joy through the way the gospel was impacting Marie’s life.
Long story, short, Marie is now a part of AACM’s Sent Out ministry! As much as I had been praying for the harvest during RecWeek, where I found the most joy during the week was in praying for the workers, to provide more workers and to stir up the hearts of those in AACM for the unreached — and God answered those prayers through Marie and her faithfulness.
